Factoring families into event planning is an important step towards a supportive company climate. A large part of the workforce benefits from the effects. After all, according to Destatis 65.6% of parents with child(ren) under six are employed.
We've put together a few ideas to make company events more family-friendly:
- Involve parents in the planning: ask employees about their needs and wishes regarding the events and take these into account when planning.
- Think of everyone: those on parental leave should definitely be invited too. Despite their temporary absence, they are part of the company and appreciate proactive contact from the company.
- Clear communication: inform people early about events and clearly communicate the options for participation and any support on offer.
- Scheduling: participating in events without children can only be ensured stress-free by parents within childcare hours and therefore rather in the mornings.
- On-site childcare: if the event can't be held in the morning, professional carers and a separate room for child-friendly activities can enable parents to take part.
- Virtual participation options: livestreams or video recordings for employees who can't attend in person.
- Flexibility in participation: it should be possible to arrive later or leave earlier if needed, among other things to meet family obligations.
- Catering: there should be enough non-alcoholic drinks available. There are now very good non-alcoholic alternatives to wine and spirits.
By implementing these tips, companies can ensure that their company events are accessible and supportive for all employees.
